Since the explosion in the port of Beirut and the outbreak of the Covid pandemic, the people of Lebanon have been suffering from hyperinflation. This has led to nearly three quarter of the population living below the national poverty line. Fights have broken out in supermarkets as people try to buy bread, sugar, oil and other scarce commodities.
